Hoop Grids

Hoop Grids is an exciting basketball-themed puzzle game that challenges participants to use their knowledge of basketball players' statistics to identify a specific player who meets the criteria specified in each row and column of a grid.

Game Setup

The game is played on a grid with players' names listed along the rows and various statistical attributes along the columns. The columns represent different player statistics, such as points per game, assists per game, rebounds per game, field goal percentage, and more. Each row in the grid contains specific thresholds for these attributes, creating unique challenges for the participants.

Gameplay

  • Grid Creation: At the beginning of each game, a new grid is generated with random players and corresponding statistics within specific ranges. This ensures that each game is fresh and unpredictable.

  • Player Selection: Participants take turns selecting a player from the grid, aiming to fulfill the criteria in each row and column to achieve the lowest rarity score. The rarity score is calculated based on how unique the selected player's statistical profile is compared to other players in the database.

  • Meeting Criteria: To select a player for a specific row and column, the participant must ensure that the player's statistical values meet or exceed the thresholds specified in the row. For instance, if the row requires a player with more than 20 points per game, the participant must choose a player whose average points per game surpasses that mark.

  • Rarity Scoring: The rarity score is calculated by considering how often a player has been chosen by other participants in previous games. The less frequently a player is selected, the lower their rarity score will be, making them a desirable pick to minimize the overall score.

  • Strategic Decision-Making: Participants must strategize carefully to maximize their chances of selecting players who meet the criteria while keeping their rarity scores low. They can analyze the available statistical data, take calculated risks, and adapt their strategy based on their opponents' moves.

  • Time Constraints: To add an element of excitement, a time limit may be imposed on each participant's turn. This ensures that participants think quickly and make decisions under pressure, simulating the fast-paced nature of basketball.
